International 2003
October 17-19 2003
I wouldn't really call this camp a success, but it's one to remember... One of the beloved staff members past away doing what he loves most.
Friday we arrived at the camp and unpacked all our gear after we set up our marquee. We settled down and got a camp fire going, and had mug-up. At about 7:00o'clock we started security. It wasn't as good as last year because last year the Scouts kept running out of their camp sites after lights out onto the soccer field in front of Yogi Bear. When they did that last year, we chased them and dragged them back to camp. This year they were good so we couldn't have any fun. Usually, at about mid-night the leaders take over for security, but because of the passing of Mr. Ozment, the leaders were to shaken up about it, so we had to work as late as we could.
Saturday was the big day. As usual, Scouter Dave went around from camp site to camp site and woke everybody up for flag-raising. After flag-raising, we made our breakfast and cleaned up. Later we started our events, and as usual, the Venturers won first place, and believe it or not, I heard that our group was the first one to participate in all the events in 10 years. We stopped at about 12:30 for lunch, then we went back out to finish our events.
Sunday Scouter Dave went around and woke everybody up again, but there was a certain individual from the 57th who didn't want to get up. His name is Owen... So Dave took it upon himself to wake him up 5 minutes before flag-raising with a mega-phone on feed-back right to his ear outside of the tent. After we made our breakfast, cleaned, packed, then put our equipment in our Scouter's truck.
